The Dwadasa Jyoti Ling shrines or the 12 shrines enshrining Shiva in the form of a Jyotilingam, have been held in reverence since time immemorial in the Indian system of beliefs. The southernmost of these is located at Rameswaram, while the northernmost is located in the snowy heights of the Himalayas at Kedarnath. These temples are closely linked with legends from the puranas and are rich in history and tradition.
The itinerary has been designed so that you are able to do proper Darshan at all 12 Jyoti Lings. As Kedarnath route is open only from Akshya Tritya (usally in the month of May) and closes on the day of Diwali (October/November). This tour is available between these periods only.
The idol of Mahakaleshwar is also known as Dakshinamurti as the lingam is facing the south. It is regarded one of the holiest Jyoti Ling situated in Mahakal forest in Ujjain. The large number of devotees can be seen during religious Hindu festivals such as Shivratri, Nag Panchami and on every Monday of Savan.
