9 Shakti Peeth

The Shakti Peethas (holy places of cosmic power) are places of worship consecrated to the goddess ‘Shakti’, the female principal of Hinduism and the main deity of the Shakti sect. Shaktipeeth are sprinkled throughout the Indian subcontinent. This goddess is often associated both with Gorri / Parvati, the benevolent goddess of harmony, marital felicity and longevity, with Durga, goddess of strength and valour, and with Mahakali (the black one) , goddess of destruction of the evil.

According to legend, at some time in Satya Yuga, Daksha (who was the son of Lord Brahma) performed a yagna in a place called Kankan (near Haridwar) This Yagya was named Vrihaspati Yagna. He performed this Yagna with a desire of taking revenge on Lord Shiva. Daksha was angry because his daughter Sati (one of his 27 daughters) had married the ‘yogi’ God Shiva against his wishes. Daksha invited all the deities to the yagna except for Shiva and Sati. The fact that she was not invited did not deter Sati from attending the yagna. She had expressed her desire to attend to Shiva, who had tried his best to dissuade her from going. Shiva eventually allowed her to go escorted by his ganas.

But Sati, being an uninvited guest, was not given any respect by his father. Further more, Daksha insulted Shiva. Sati was unable to bear her father’s insults toward her husband, so she committed suicide by jumping into the yagna fire (sacrificial fire). When Lord Shiva heard about her death he became furious. He along with his ganas (followers) went to the place where Daksha was performing his oblation. The oblation site was completely destroyed by Shiva and his ganas (mainly by the great Veerbhadra) and killed Daksha.

Lord Shiva then carried the corpse of Sati and started dancing furiously all over the place with berevement. The other gods intervened to stop this dance. To bring down his anger, Lord Vishnu severed the dead body with his Sudarshan chakra. Various parts of the body fell at several spots all through the Indian subcontinent and formed the sites of which are known as Shaktipeeth.

Meet and greet with our office representative, assistance and transfer to hotel check in. Afternoon visit to the famous Akshardham Temple. Overnight at hotel.
Day 3
Delhi – Vaishnodevi
Today morning after breakfast, we will drive to Kurukshetra and then to Katra (Vaishnodevi). On arrival check in to the hotel. Rest of the day is free for leisure. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 4
Vaishnodevi Darshan
Early in the morning depart for Vaishnodevi Shrine. Return to Katra after dharshan. Overnight at the hotel
Vaishno Devi
is one of the holiest Hindu temples dedicated to Shakti, located in the hills of Vaishno Devi, Jammu and Kashmir, India. In Hinduism, Vaishno Devi, also known as Mata Rani and Vaishnavi, is a manifestation of the Mother Goddess.  The temple is near the town of Katra, in the Reasi district in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is one of the most revered places of worship in Northern India. The shrine is at an altitude of 5200 feet and a distance of approximately 13.5 kilometres (8.38851 miles) from Katra. Approximately 8 million pilgrims (yatris) visit the temple every year and it is the second most visited religious shrine in India, after Tirumala Venkateswara Temple.
Day 5
Katra – Chamundadevi – Dharamshala
Today morning after breakfast, we will drive to Dharamshala ( Himachal Pradesh ) on the way we will visit Chamunda Mata Shakti Pith. Then check in at hotel. Rest of the day at your leisure.
Chamunda Devi
also known as Chamundi, Chamundeshwari and Charchika, is a fearsome aspect of Devi, the Hindu Divine Mother and one of the seven Matrikas (mother goddesses). She is also one of the chief Yoginis, a group of sixty-four or eighty-one Tantric goddesses, who are attendants of the warrior goddess Durga. The name is a combination of Chanda and Munda, two monsters whom Chamunda killed. She is closely associated with Kali, another fierce aspect of Devi. She is sometimes identified with goddesses Parvati, Chandi or Durga as well.
Day 6
Chintpoorni Mata – Jwalaji Mata – Kangla Mata – Dharamshala
Today after breakfast we shall leave for 3 shakti Piths Darshan, Chintpoorni Mata, Jwalaji, Kangla Mata and then Return to our Hotel in Dharamshala for night stay.
Chintpurni Mata
The temple dedicated to Mata Chintpurni Devi is located in District Una, Himachal Pradesh. Mata Chintpurni Devi is also known as Mata Shri Chhinnamastika Devi. Devotees have been visiting this Shaktipeeth for centuries to pray at the lotus feet of Mata Shri Chhinnamastika Devi. They bring with them their worldly concerns and seek blessings from the Devi. It is believed that if you ask something from the Devi with a true heart, your wish will be granted.Apart from the holy shrine, according to Manav Bhardwaj, the place is full of picturesque surroundings.
Jawala Ji
The flaming temple of Himachal Pradesh, Jwalaji temple is located at a distance of 34 km south of Kangra Valley. Dedicated to Goddesses Jwalamukhi with flaming mouth, there is a copper pipe in this temple through which natural gas comes out and the priest of the temple lights this. These flames burn continuously without any fuel or assistance and may be seen erupting from a rock-side. This flame is worshiped as a manifestation of the goddess Jwalamukhi.  the temple is believed to have nine permanent flames named after the goddesses- Mahakali, Unpurna, Chandi, Hinglaj, Bindhya Basni, Maha Lakshmi, Saraswati, Ambika and Anji Devi. The temple is considered very powerful, hence count as one of the 51 Shakti-Pitha temples in India.
Kangla Devi
is also called Vajreshvari. It is believed that when Sati’s body was cut into different pieces the remaining part stayed in this place. Some believe that it was Sati’s breast that fell here. People come from great distances to worship the Goddess. Devotees sometimes cut off their tongues as a sign of devotion. The tongues grow back quickly, simetimes on the spot. Devi is worshipped here in the form of a pindi as you can see in the upper image. Food offerings are divided into three parts. One part each for Mahalakshmi, Mahakali and Mahasaraswati.The image to the left is the Vajreshwari Devi Temple
Day 7
Dharamshala – Nainadevi Mata – Mansadevi – Chandigarh
Today after breakfast we drive to Nainadevi Mata Shakti Pith and then to Chandigarh. After check in we visit Manchdevi Mata shakti pith and return to hotel for night stay.
Shri Naina Devi
Ji is situated on a hilltop in the Bilaspur Distt. of Himachal Pradesh in India. The temple is connected with National Highway No. 21. The temple at the top of the hill can be reached via road (that curves round the hill up to a certain point) and then by concrete steps (that finally reach the top). There is also a cable car facility that moves pilgrims from the base of the hill all the way to the top. Shri Naina Devi Temple is also known as Mahishapeeth because of defeat of demon Mahishasur by the Goddess. According to the legends, Mahishasur was a powerful demon who was blessed by the boon of immortality by Lord Brahma, but the condition was that he could be defeated only by an unmarried woman. Due to this boon, Mahishasur started spreading terror on Earth and Gods. To cope with the demon, all Gods combined their powers and created a Devi to defeat him. The Devi was gifted different types of weapons by all Gods. When Mahishasur got mesmerized by the immense beauty of Devi and proposed her to marry him. Devi told him that she will marry him if he would overpower her. During the battle, Devi defeated the demon and took out both his eyes. This urged Gods to happily applaud “Jai Naina” and hence the name.
Mansa Devi
temple is a very famous shrine located at Panchkula, which is about 8 kms away from the city. This holy Siddh Peeth is dedicated to Mata Mansa Devi. According to the Hindu mythology, the head of Devi Sati had fallen over here. Mansa Devi Temple near Chandigarh basically houses two temples. The temple that is located near the parking lot is said to be the main temple. It was established in the year 1815 A.D by the ruler of Mani Majra. The credit for setting up the relatively new temple goes to the Maharaja of Patiala. Adjoining to the Chandigarh Mansa Devi mandir, there is a beautiful garden consisting of sacred plants. People come from all over the world to pay homage to the goddess. During Navratras, fairs take place in the surrounding areas of Mansa Devi temple.
Day 8
Chandigarh – SukhumbariMata – Haridwar.
Today after breakfast we proceed towards our eight shakti pith Sukhmubari Mata and after darshan head to Hardwar. After check in hotel we shall visit Hari ki pauri for the evening Holy Ganga Aarti. After Aarti we shall return to hotel For night stay.
Shakumbhri Devi
The presiding deity of this temple is considered to be the Goddess who provides Vegetarian Food to the hungry in times of famines, distress and poverty. (‘Shaka’ meaning vegetarian in sanskrit) The temple has the Idols of the Godess in the four incarnations of : 1. Maa Shakumbhari Devi 2. Maa Shatakshi Devi 3. Maa Bhima Devi 4. Maa Brambhari Devi. The temple is one of the eight ‘Siddh Peeth’ Temples associated with the eight places where the bodily remanants of Goddess Durga dropped down from the Heavens when the goddess jumped into the yagna fire in here ‘Sati’ avataar.
Haridwar
lying at the feet of Shiva’s hills, i.e., Shivaliks, in the Haridwar district of Uttaranchal Pradesh, is a doorway. Suryavanshi prince Bhagirath performed penance here to salvage the souls of his ancestors who had perished due to the curse of sage Kapila. The penance was answered and the river Ganga trickled forth forms Lord Shiva’s locks and its bountiful water revived the sixty thousand sons of king Sagara. In the traditional of Bhagirath, devout Hindus stand in the sacred waters here, praying for salvation of their departed elder. It is doorway to the sources of the Ganga and the Yamuna, 3000 to 4500 meters up into the snowy ranges of the central Himalayas. The ‘Aarti’ worship of the Ganga after sunset and the floating ‘dia’ (lamp) is a moving ritual.
Day 9
Haridwar – Rishikesh – Haridwar
After breakfast drive to Rishikesh, the ‘place of sages’ is a celebrated spiritual town on the bank of Ganga and is surrounded by Shivalik range of the Himalayas on three sides. It is said that when Raibhya Rishi did hard penances, God appeared by the name of ” Hrishikesh ” and this area hence firth came to be known as Rishikesh. Upon arrival visit Rishikesh Temples & Sight Seeing – Laxman Jhulla, Ram Jhulla, Triveni Ghat, Bharat Mandir, Shivananda Ashram, Parmarth Ashram. In the afernoon proceed to Haridwar. Night halt at Haridwar Hotel.
Day 10
Haridwar – Delhi Airport for Kolkata.
Early morning after breakfast drive to Delhi Airport to catch a flight to Kolkata. Upon arrival in Kolkata, transfer to hotel and night stay at the Hotel.
Day 11
Kolkata – Gangasagar.
Early Morning we leave for Ganga Sagar and return back to Kolkata in the evening for night stay.

Gangasagar: Where the sacred Ganges reaches The Bay of Bengal. According to the mythological history, it was said that, on this day of Makar Sankranti 60,000 souls were released & got liberty with the touch of the holy water of Ganges at Gangasagar. So to release own souls from pains and sins & to earn virtue Tourists from all over come here to take a holy dip & earn blessings from Kapil Muni – an avatar of Lord Vishnu “.

Day 12
Kolkata – Kalighat & Sightseeing.
After breakfast  today we visit the ninth Shakti Pith KaliGhat, then we visit Dakshin Kali the holy temple where Ram Krishna Paramhans used to  have dialogues with MataKali. Then we visit the Holy Ashram of Ram Krishna Paramhans  namely (BELUR MATH ) where ram krishna Paramhansji gave his teachings to his followers one of them was Swami Vivekanand.
Kalighat
 is regarded as one of the 52 Shakti Peethams of India, where the various parts of Sati’s body are said to have fallen, in the course of Shiva’s Rudra Tandava. Kalighat represents the site where the toes of the right foot of Shakti or Sati fell.

It is a very famous place and a pilgrimage for Shakta (Shiva and Durga/Kali/Shakti worshippers) followers within the Hindu religion. The image of the deity is incomplete. Only the face of the deity was made first. The hands, made of gold and silver, the tongue, the Shiva statue and all the jewellery were added over the years. On snanyatra day, while giving the divine Mother the ceremonial bath, the priests tie their eyes with cloth coverings. On auspicious occasions like Kali Puja, Durga Puja, Poila Boishakh, the Bengali New Year day and sankranti large number of devotees throng the place with offerings.

After sightseeing we report to Howrah bridge train station for night travel to Bhubaneshwar for Jagannath Puri.

Day 13
Kolkata – Jagannath Puri.
In the morning transfer to airport to take a flight to Bhubaneshwar. Upon arrival we shall be transferred to Hotel in Bhubaneshwar. After check in and getting freshened up we drive to Puri for the holy darshan of Jagannath Puriji. After darshan we shall proceed to do local sight seeing such KONARK  the sun temple  and in the afternoon drive back to Bhubaneswar for local sight seeing in Bhubaneshwar, LINGESHWAR MAHADEV and few of the world heritage sights. We end up in the hotel for night stay.
Day 14
Transfer to Airport for return journey back to London.
